Big Cat Week: Series 1 & 2 (DVD)   £9.99

To celebrate a decade of Big Cat Diary action, we revisit the cast and characters, offering a unique opportunity to watch their unfolding lives over a two-year span. From a camp in the heart of Kenya's magnificent Masi Mara, specialist teams observe the daily lives and adventures of Africa's big cats. Series 1: The Marsh Pride of lions is 30 strong - a magnificent group of females, sub-adults and cubs. But there's a problem, their sole defender is lone male Simba. When two young males move in on pride territory and chase him away, chaos will surely follow. Right in the firing line is Bibi, a young lioness with two tiny cubs. If the invading males find the little family, the cubs will be killed. It's all down to Simba to try and re-take the territory and secure the bloodline. Kike the cheetah is a working single mum with three hungry mouths to feed. She works hard for their well-being and will try anything in her hurry to hunt - even using Jonathan Scott's car as a handy lookout. The real problem is that she's never successfully raised a litter of cubs before, every single one has been lost to other predators - maybe, just maybe, this time they'll make it. Bella the leopard is the queen of stealth. Like Kike she needs to hunt regularly to feed her litter of two small cubs, but this is a much bigger, bolder animal than the slender cheetah. When the wildebeest migration arrives, she ambushes the herds as they cross the river - it's no wonder she gains the nickname 'gentle assassin.' Series 2: Cheza and Sala are the oddest couple of lion pals you ever saw. Cheza is nearly double the size of tiny Sala and leads the smaller cub into all sorts of trouble. When that involves a huge herd of angry buffalo, things look very bleak indeed for little Sala. Kike the cheetah has successfully raised her three cubs and they're out on their own. But the Mara is a challenging place for cheetahs going solo for the first time. Will the intrepid trio manage to stay clear of the army of hyenas, lions and vultures that are out to cause them maximum grief? Bella the leopard is still going strong in the company of one of her cubs - Chui. Like Kike's cubs, he's ready to go solo, but is much keener to stay with mum. His encounters with crocodiles and buffaloes show that he still has a lot to learn before he becomes an independent leopard. This double DVD also includes 2 additional half-hour special documentaries - 'Bella and her Cubs' and 'Cheza and Sala'.

David Attenborough: State Of The Planet (DVD)   £11.19

Everywhere you turn there is confusion about the current state of our planet; rainforest destruction - with talk of rainforest destruction, global warming, extinction of species, rising sea-levels, drought and meteoric collisions. To coincide with the new millennium, David Attenborough brings his matter-of-fact clarity to the subject, investigating the latest scientific research to explain the situation in simple terms for the first time. Over the course of three programmes, David works with experts to ask whether nature really is in a crisis of species extinction, to examine why has this come about and finally to understand what options for the future remain open to us. His quest takes him on a truly global trail, from Kenya to Ecuador, from the Philippines and the Maldives to Easter Island, and from South Africa to California - visiting habitats of threatened species and exploring ways in which life can be sustained for the future. Episode One: Is there a crisis? Life has existed on this planet for 3.5 billion years - and never with a greater or more remarkable diversity. Flourishing life in the oceans and rainforests still remains to be discovered and only a fraction of all species have been found. We often hear that nature is in crisis but is this really true? And why has this come about? Episode 2 - Why is there a crisis? Extinction is a natural process. Yet species are now becoming extinct at 100 to 1000 times the normal rate. Humans may be directly responsible, but we are only doing what all living things do - multiplying our numbers. We are just extremely good at it, and other species pay the price. We are fast approaching a natural bottleneck. During the next hundred years, we must save as much biodiversity as possible. There is hope, for all bottlenecks end. But just how much life will get through this time? Episode 3 - Life's future With an ever-growing population and higher demands on the environment, the future of nature looks worrying. At this turning point in human history, we can still choose whether to leave behind a healthy planet or an impoverished one. The future of life on earth depends upon our ability to take action. We are fortunate enough to have the knowledge of how to change things - it just requires the will.

David Attenborough: The Truth About Climate Change (DVD)   £12.49

The Truth About Climate Change is a two part documentary presented by Sir David Attenborough who asks the question What is the future for our world?' Some extraordinary phenomena have taken place in recent times; Hurricane Katrina, the heat wave of 2003, polar bears swimming in search of ice and vast swarms of insects enveloping an African village. But are these isolated incidents or are they omens of a greater global change? Sir David discovers that the world is warming at an unprecedented rate, and finds out why this is now far beyond any normal allowance for cyclical fluctuation. But are humans to blame? These changes are already in motion whatever we do now, but Sir David believes that we may be able to act to prevent a catastrophe. People around the world are having to adapt their way of life as the climate changes; the Inuit in the Arctic whose hunting is now limited, the Pacific island inhabitants forced to move as their homes disappear beneath the waves, and the Siberian homes slowly sinking into the permafrost. Sir David investigates some of the possible scenarios for the future, including rising sealevels, insect plagues and an increase in diseases.

The Galapagos archipelago is made up of thirteen main islands and more than sixty other islets, rocks and reefs, scattered over four hundred kilometres of open ocean. Sitting at a confluence of four major ocean currents, the islands are actually the summits of vast undersea volcanoes, and are steadily on the march. How has such an odd assortment of life managed to find a footing in this unruly world? Micro-climates and altitude have combined to form discrete environmental zones: perfect habitats for the islands' diverse fauna - marine iguanas, petrels, blue-footed boobies and giant tortoises being but a famous few. Galapagos is a rare insight into an incredible landscape, a natural laboratory and an exquisite evolutionary habitat that Darwin described as a 'world within itself'. Both fragile and furious, the Galapagos is unlike any other place on earth.

The human film crew film from another elephant and control the ele-cams remotely. Tigers may be the A-list celebrities, but theres a cast of rising B-list stars too. Cheeky langur monkeys are transfixed by their reflections in log-cam, and rare sloth bears, red dogs and a leopard with her cubs all make cameo appearances.
