Doctor Who: Caves Of Androzani (DVD) £15.99
Starring Peter Davison Written by Robert Holmes Directed by Graeme Harper Produced by John Nathan-Turner First DVD release from the Davison years. Contains exclusive extra features. The TARDIS arrives on Androzani Minor, the source of a life-prolonging drug refined from a substance called spectrox. Production of the drug is controlled by Sharaz Jek, a self-imposed exile. Jak blames Morgus, a powerful industrialist on Androzani Major, for all his misfortunes. Whilst Jek is fighting government troops sent to liberate the drug, unknown to him, his weaponry is being supplied by Morgus in return for spectrox. This gives Morgus a monopoly of the drug on Major. Jek becomes infatuated with Peri and saves her and the Doctor from being executed by Morgus, however the pair fail to escape a fatal disease contracted along the way... This story ends with one of the most notable regeneration sequences in the series' history, ushering in the sixth Doctor. The time travellers discover that a space capsule has crash-landed nearby and that its alien occupants, three Terileptil prison escapees, intend to wipe out all indigenous life on Earth by releasing rats infected with an enhanced strain of the great plague. The creatures are also using a sophisticated android to strike terror into the local villagers. Aided by itinerant thespian Richard Mace, the Doctor tracks the Terileptils to their base in Pudding Lane, London. The creatures are ultimately destroyed when a fire breaks out and the Terileptil leader's weapon explodes - also setting off the Great Fire of London.
